Barnaul is a city and the administrative center of Altai Krai, Russia. Barnaul is situated in the southwest of the Siberian Federal District on the Ob River. Population: 612,100 (2010 Census preliminary results); 600,749 (2002 Census); 601,811 (1989 Census).
The city lies along the Ob River in the West Siberian Plain. It is the closest major city to the Altai Mountains to the south. Barnaul is also situated relatively close to the border with the countries of Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and China.
Barnaul ist die Hauptstadt der russischen Region Altai im Süden Westsibiriens mit 647.703 Einwohnern (Stand: 1. Januar 2008).
Die Stadt befindet sich 180 km südöstlich von Nowosibirsk und 280 km von der Grenze zu Kasachstan. Sie liegt am westsibirischen Hauptfluss Ob am Ostrand der Barabasteppe in sandiger Gegend.
In Barnaul herrscht kontinentales Klima mit sehr kalten Wintern und warmen Sommern.
